Allahyarham Tan Sri Adenan was an avid and voracious reader, says Dato’ Sri DiRaja Adnan

Following the demise of Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem this Wednesday afternoon (January 11); Menteri Besar Dato’ Sri DiRaja Adnan Yaakob released a brief statement via a short message system (SMS) late this evening, that has been reproduced as below.


OFFICE OF THE PAHANG MENTERI BESAR, WISMA SRI PAHANG, KUANTAN – “I feel sad at the passing away of Sarawak Chief Minister Allahyarham Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

“In a relatively short period that I knew him, I found him to be an honest and a firm but reasonable man.

“He was an avid and voracious reader. In one wedding function when I was seated beside him, he was reading a book from his tablet.

“To Puan Sri Jamilah Anu and family, I offer a heartfelt condolences with a prayer that Allah Almighty will bestow His forgiveness, blessings and mercy upon his soul. May his soul rest in peace”.

According to newsreports, Allahyarham Tan Sri Adenan passed away at 1.24pm today at the Sarawak General Hospital in Kota Samarahan. He was 72-years-old. 

Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Dato’ Abang Johari Openg was quoted as saying that a seven-day mourning period has been declared during which the Sarawak state flag will be flown half-mast.

He also announced that tomorrow will be the state holiday and that Allahyarham Tan Sri Adenan will be buried at the Samariang Cemetery in Kuching. – Khabar
