Plan to relocate Pasdec Automative Technologies plant from South Africa to neighbouring Botswana



“… Pasdec Automative Technologies supplies to world-known car brands such as Nissan, Renault and Volkswagen; with electrical wiring harnesses.

“Given our long and successful relationships with these prestigious multinational automative manufacturers, we expect our business to grow further,” says the Chief Minister giving a glimpse on the relocation exercise.

21ST FLOOR, ZENITH HOTEL, KUANTAN – Pasdec Holdings Bhd’s subsidiary – Pasdec Automative Technologies (Pty) Ltd (PAT), intends to relocate it’s electrical wiring harnesses plant from the present site in Brits, South Africa, to Lobatse in the Republic of Botswana.

Announcing this in his 9-minute off-the-cuff speech at a dinner hosted for the visiting Minister of Trade and Industry (MTI) of the Republic of Botswana, Mr Vincent T.Sereste, Wednesday, February 11, Chief  Minister Dato’ Sri DiRaja Adnan Yaakob said;

“From feedback given to the Board of Directors by Dato’ Kevin Pather, it is clear that in the government of Botswana, the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) and the people of Botswana in general, we will surely have exceptional partners to accompany us on our journey to sustainable growth.

“The manner in which you have embraced our relocation exercise and have gone the extra mile to accomodate our operational requirements, bodes well for the future and we are very grateful for your enthusiastic participation.

“In return, I can assure you that Pasdec Automative Technologies, which has a proud track record of more than 40 years, is committed to adding value to your economy and improving the lives of your citizens”.

ALL IN THE HOLDING ROOM... Prior to the dinner at the 21st Floor, both parties had a brief, cordial meeting in a holding room at the 19th Floor of this 5-star hotel.

PAT MUST CONTINUE TO PRODUCE WORLD-CLASS PRODUCTS

Dato’ Kevin Pather as mentioned by Dato’ Sri DiRaja Adnan, is presently the Chief Executive Officer cum Managing Director of PAT, who flew in from South Africa to be present at this dinner.

The Chief Minister added that, PAT is currently supplying electrical wiring harnesses to some world- and popularly-known car brands such as Nissan, Renault and Volkswagen and that;  

“Given our long and successful relationships with these prestigious multinational automative manufacturers, we expect our business to grow further (when the plant is relocated to Botswana),” he assured.

He then threw some sort of a challenge to the management of PAT to continually manufacture world-class products, hence the need for the company to keep on developing world-class skills in it’s workforce.

Thus far he said, PAT has a tremendous track record in it’s ongoing development programmes, which over the years have substantially enhanced the expertise and knowledge of the many hundreds of it’s employees.

NO DEVIATION FROM POLICY TO PRODUCE SKILLED WORKFORCE

“Needless to say, Pasdec Automative Technologies will not deviate from this policy and through our dedication to training, we believe that we can make a meaningful contribution to the advancement of skills in the Republic of Botswana and Lobatse, in particular – the place to where our plant to be relocated to,” he added.    

Dato’ Sri DiRaja Adnan also spoke about social consciousness and commitment to performing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that were not something new nor alien to PAT.

The company’s contribution to the communities where it’s plant is situated at he added, has always been to support initiatives of the local business community and to help in improving the quality of life of the people residing in these communities.

“The people of Lobatse therefore,” he said, “… will directly benefit from our presence and we look forward to being able to make a positive difference to their lives, in-sya-Allah, God-willing”.
